Santhosh Kumar Chittimalla: As a new entrant to Pharmaceutical Industry with a Synthetic Organic Chemistry background I had faced hurdles of understanding how people deal with medicinal chemistry projects. On the top of it, I had no Biology background which made the task more difficult. With time I realized that top pharmaceutical companies who had absolute knowledge on this subject started out-sourcing the projects, and the gap between Med Chem experts and next generation aspirants increased. This out-sourcing business model has put-down the aspirations of new generation interested in Med Chem as they are not going to be mentored by the top-level experts in the field. There are times when young scientists working in CRO’s get frustrated on how to understand the subject; remember that mastering it is a completely different ball game. My idea is to give a glimpse of how to approach med chem projects. You can call it as a ‘system’ following which burden of ‘can I at least understand’ will be solved.
