Drug Discovery Process - 1

As a new entrant to medicinal chemistry field, what is the first thing most of us get to look at?  Not surprisingly, it is drug discovery process chart.  There are umpteen number of drug discovery process charts available on internet.  But, I thought, it is a good idea to put forward a drug discovery chart with a bit of explanation added into it.  Below chart gives the process till candidate selection phase.  These are the stages, most of the medicinal chemists get a chance to work in.  Later stages of drug discovery are clinical trials.  In my later posts, I shall go into the details of few topics appearing in these phases and continue to add the next steps in drug discovery process.  Hope and wish this will help.  In the process, I might also add important points if required to this post.
